Create Your Own Area Rug

| October 19, 2011 | 1 Comment

Let’s face it rugs are certainly not cheap, or so you think. They do add a bit of color into your home though and make for good decoration. Also some rooms or hallways need an “awkward” sized rug to make the area look right. There is a cheap and effective solution to add color into your rooms and cover those awkward spaces; make them yourself! Depending on how big you make them will determine the cost, but a rather nice sized rug can cost you about $20 with this simple two step project.

What you need:

-Inexpensive cotton rag rugs; you can buy these at Wal-mart, Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, etc. for about $3.99-$5.99

-Skein of cotton yarn; costs about $4.99

How to:

First place two rugs together tightly, either side-by-side, or top-to-bottom. Secondly use the yarn to whip-stitch them together to make a tight bond between the rugs. Add any additional rugs to cover the area you desire. Don’t be afraid to get creative with different colors and shapes!
