What Happens in Vegas Stays on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr…

Social media is big and is forever changing the way we do business, especially in the multifamily housing space. Our industry has come a long way with social media and it’s interesting to see how it’s even changing event planning for the 2011 National Apartment Association Education Conference & Exposition.

Today I leave for Vegas and as the event draws closer, I find myself not only procrastinating on packing but actively checking Twitter for pre-show tweets and Facebook to find my friends all anxiously awaiting their arrival to the big event. I love how NAA is so integrated with social media this year for the conference. It’s great to see the association progress with technology and keep attendees up-to-date in real time. This year they have a mobile site to help attendees stay organized and engaged on the go. They have a live Twitter stream and Facebook badge with conference updates on the site and a YouTube and Flickr account to house fun videos and photos.

As I went to visit NAA’s YouTube page this morning, I randomly came across one of my favorite videos, “Social Media Revolution”. This video was published in 2009 and now has more than 2.8 million views. The video was based on the #1 International Best Selling Book Socialnomics by author Eric Qualman. This video then led me to a new video that Eric released last week called ‘Social Media Revolution 2011’, which is a shorter version that includes new social media stats for 2011.

Eric’s new video perfectly sums up why I am so passionate about social media and emerging technology. He makes such a valid point. “We don’t have a choice on whether we DO social media, the question is how well we do it.” This video is so timely and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Here are my top takeaways from this video.

  • Facebook tops Google for weekly traffic in U.S.
  • If Facebook were country it would be the 3rd largest
  • YouTube is the second largest search engine in the world
  • 90% of consumers trust peer recommendations
  • 93% of marketers use social media for business
  • The ROI for social media is your business will still exist in 5 years
  • Be careful in Vegas this week because you could end up on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr and many more sites!

We look forward to attending and exhibiting at the conference and to see important multifamily housing issues be addressed and learn from some of the world’s most dynamic business leaders and speakers. I can’t wait to see my friends, colleagues and clients! If you can’t make the conference, follow my updates on Twitter @ericacampbell, @AptsForRent and the conference hashtag #NAAEduConf.

Be sure to stop by our booth #1323 for tons of giveaways, photo-ops and to find out more information on how social media should be a part of your integrated marketing strategy. We have some exciting social media and resident retention product enhancements to unveil at the show.

And remember…what happens in Vegas stays on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr…
