Life After College

June 1, 2012 | 0 Comments

Alright, you did it. You got that diploma and are finally done with that college degree…. Now what?  Now, the real world is knocking on your door, quite literally.

It’s time to head into that 9-5 job force.  While some students may be heading back to their parents for a little more support, most new grads will be looking to get out on their own and get started.  So what are a few tips on looking for your first place of your own?  We have mapped it out for you in a quick simple guide.

1.  Get that list made.

Write down anything and everything you can think of that you might want, and then make a separate list of those things that you absolutely cannot live without.

2.  Don’t do it on your own

This is the first time you’re really out on your own, so don’t try and do it alone.  Ask your parents or adults for advice on what to look for and smart shopping tips.  They know a lot better than you, just accept it.

3.  Know your budget, and don’t go crazy

Unless you somehow graduated with a 6 figure salary, you really need to be realistic when it comes to what you can afford.  Go into it with a set idea of what you can manage and DO NOT get bullied by the realtors into going beyond what you can handle.

4.  Be Mentally and Physically Prepared

Have your checks and supplies necessary to secure an apartment at a moment’s notice if necessary.  Sometimes a place will be in high demand and if it fits your needs you will want to be ready to take it.  And be prepared for the stress.  It’s not easy but you can do it!

5.  Go to!

Check the listings for apartments for rent in your area.  (:

Happy hunting!
