With childhood obesity on the rise, most families are taking measures to create an active lifestyle for their children. Spokane, Washington is a wonderfully active community. Greater Spokane apartments are only a few minutes from several fantastic venues where kids can become active in sports or get inspired by cheering on their favorite teams:
The Great Outdoors
Some of Washington State’s largest state parks are just a few miles from the Spokane city limit. Ride the soft powder at the Mount Spokane Ski and Snowboard Park. Or hike, bike, rock-climb, picnic, off-road, camp, and paddle on over 10,000 acres at Riverside State Park.
The best way to make kids active is to make them sports fans. Spokane has two arenas, one indoors (the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena, a.k.a. "the Spokane Arena") and one outdoors (Joe Albi Stadium). They host a variety of sports, including hockey, football, bull-riding, basketball, and figure-skating (the Spokane Arena was the venue for both the 2007 and 2010 figure-skating championships). Spokane also boasts Avista Stadium, home of the minor-league baseball team The Spokane Indians.
