Can you get around the downtown Philadelphia area on foot?

Philadelphia is an easy city to get around on foot, and when the weather is nice it can really be a lovely way to enjoy the town. When looking at apartments for rent, Philadelphia makes a great place to live, especially sections of the city that are near one of the five main parks (or "squares" as the locals call them). The squares are: Franklin, Washington, Rittenhouse, Logan and Center. Each provides green space, but they also serve as a focal point around which stores, restaurants and cafes tend to be located. If you can get an apartment near one of these areas, there will be plenty to do within walking distance.

Philadelphia is actually known for being a good walking city, and there is even an organization to prove it. "Walk! Philadelphia" has what they call "ambassadors" that serve as concierges on the streets to help people navigate their way around the city. This can be especially helpful for newcomers to Philadelphia, as well as tourists. If you will be moving to the city, you may want to consider leaving your car behind, since parking isn’t always the easiest, and getting around on foot is so simple.
