Once home to such famous Akron residents as presidential candidate Wendell Willkie and AA co-founder Dr. Robert Smith, Highland Square has long been one of the city’s favorite residential neighborhoods.
The area is culturally diverse but retains its charm and character as an urban neighborhood. Residents have formed the Highland Square Neighborhood Association to help maintain the safety and cohesiveness of the neighborhood as well as build a close-knit community. The association has programs such as Art in the Square, Holidays in the Square, block parties, and other events which help accomplish their goals.
In addition to residences, Highland Square is home to retail shops, restaurants, and several nightclubs. It is one of the few remaining pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods in the area, with a number of independently owned, non-franchised businesses. It is a thriving, evolving community committed to its future.
Rentals in the Highland Square range from studios to three-bedroom units. Prices are about average for Akron Ohio apartments.
