Shaker Heights lies just eight miles east of downtown Cleveland. It is one of Cleveland’s inner-ring or “first” suburbs and shares a border with the city of Cleveland. The city has a national reputation for excellence in services, architecture, natural beauty, and superior public education.
Shaker Heights gets its name because it was developed on land that used to belong to a community of the United Society of Believers, known as the Shakers. The city has stringent building codes and zoning laws in order to maintain its look and identity. About 70% of the city is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The area is serviced by Cleveland’s rapid-transit system, which makes commuting to the downtown area, the waterfront, sports arenas, and the airport relatively quick and easy. It is the only suburb on the east side with access to the rapid-transit system.
Shaker Heights offers many recreational opportunities to its citizens, including special programs for seniors, teens, and young children as well as adults. Facilities include a pool and an ice rink.
Rentals in the Shaker Heights area range from studios to three-bedroom units. Prices are higher than average for the apartments for rent Cleveland has to offer.Google+
