Is there a smaller town located near Spokane that is family-friendly?

If you have looked at Spokane Washington apartments and want to consider other places in the area as well, you may want to check out the neighboring town of Cheney. This is a city with a smaller feel to it; the population is just over 10,000 people. Situated just under twenty miles from Spokane, it offers big-city amenities nearby while preserving a family-oriented atmosphere. The town has a low crime rate, and the cost of living is reasonable.

Cheney is where Eastern Washington University (EWU) is located, so there are always a number of events going on in town through the school’s theater and art gallery. Just five miles to the south, you can find Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge, which has a number of hiking and walking trails. In town, you’ll also have access to seven parks, five soccer fields, several tennis courts and baseball and softball fields, and an outdoor swimming pool. Cheney is also home to the Cheney Rodeo Days, which take place annually each July.
