What are the Olympia school districts like?

If you are a family looking at Olympia apartments, you might be curious about the area’s school districts.

Fortunately, all three districts in the Olympia/Lacey area are high-quality. But here is a quick comparison:

  • Olympia School District (OSD)– The best tested of the three districts, each grade consistently testing 10 to 20% better than the state average in math, science, writing, and reading.
  • Tumwater School District (TSD)– A highly recommended school district that doesn’t test as well as OSD. TSD never tests under the state average in math, science, writing, and reading, but they have also never tested over 10% better than the state average.
  • North Thurston School District (NTSD)- Coming in at a close third, NTSD tests fairly consistently with TSD, except in high-school math, where NTSD occasionally dips 1 to 5% below state average. This district is closest to Fort Lewis, so it also has a high student turnover. A large portion of the students is transient due to military families.
