The greater Seattle suburb of Bothell is less than 20 miles from Seattle, making for a short commute to downtown Seattle. Prior to the 1990’s, Bothell was a bedroom community where most residents worked outside the city. Now, with the biotech industry firmly entrenched there, Bothell is a place to both live and work. Apartments in Bothell/Millcreek/Woodinville range in price, with one bedroom units listing for between $750-$900 per month and two bedroom units going for between $900 and $1300 per month. Wine connoisseurs may be interested to know that the largest collection of wineries in western Washington lies approximatley 25 miles from downtown Seattle. Woodinville, located on the Sammamish River in King County and just adjacent to Bothell, is home to numerous vineyards that offer tours and tasting. The most prominent of these is Chateau St. Michelle, Washington state’s founding winery. The moderate living cost, combined with the small town feel, makes these towns on the outskirts of the big city a viable alternative to the urban experience.
