What is Mud Island?

If you live in one of the Memphis, Tennessee apartments downtown, you will be close to Mud Island. This fun spot makes a great getaway and it can also be a nice place to take guests when they come in from out of town. Mud Island has a 5,000 seat amphitheater that has hosted performances for bands such as Styx, Foreigner, Smashing Pumpkins and Willie Nelson, to name a few. If you prefer a more active outing here you can head over to the Mississippi river to canoe or kayak. There are also bicycles available for use. The Mississippi River Museum is located here as well.

The "river walk" is a neat feature at Mud Island, as it serves as a mini-replica of the lower Mississippi, from Cairo to New Orleans. You can also find a concession area, gift shop and more at the facility. It is really a great place to spend the day, and if you live near the city center it is very close by. The hours are as follows:

  • April 11 – May 24 10:00 a.m – 5:00 p.m
  • May 26 – September 6 10:00 a.m – 6:00 p.m
  • September 8 – October 31 10:00 a.m – 5:00 p.m
