While looking at apartments in Tacoma area, make sure you check out the interesting and unique neighborhood of Salmon Beach.
Salmon Beach is located at water level on Tacoma’s western shoreline, just south of Pt. Defiance Park. The neighborhood represents a rare glimpse of the waterfront lifestyle from the first part of the twentieth century. All of the houses are built upon stilts and are only accessible via boat or footpath.
There are no driveways in Salmon Beach; residents must park on a cliffside lot and walk a narrow, rocky path down to their homes. That path is the neighborhood’s only road, and it’s guarded by a beautiful totem pole.
This small community comes with a spectacular view of the sound and the Narrows Bridge. Residents can fish, boat, and swim from their front porches as they watch breathtaking sunsets over the Sound.
Life on the water’s edge creates a strong sense of community among the Salmon Beachers. Even though they are secluded, the residents are friendly and always willing to help a neighbor.
