Although the northern suburbs of Chicago are very popular, apartments in south Chicago suburbs/northwest Indiana have their own appeal. Typically these areas are less expensive than the posh suburbs to the north of the city, making them a great place to check for rentals if you are on a budget. Communities like Bolingbrook and Tinley Park have good suburban atmospheres and there are a number of other places to choose from in this area.
Joliet, Orland Hills and Crestwood are a few other places to search for rental properties. Joliet is a larger city, so it may be a good choice for those who don’t need to make the commute into downtown Chicago for work. The cities vary a good deal in size in this region, but most have a suburban feel to them. More rural areas are a bit further out from the city.
Those who don’t mind a bit of a drive or who work "off" hours can also check into apartments in northwest Indiana. Cities such as Hammond and Gary are located very close to I-90, which goes right into the heart of Chicago. Both of these towns are also near Lake Michigan.
