If ships, the navy, and maritime history are your areas of interest, Norfolk, located where the Chesapeake Bay meets the Atlantic ocean, may be the place for you. The world’s largest strategic military and transportation point, Norfolk Naval Base, is located there, as is the headquarters for the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The United States Fleet Forces Command (formerly the Atlantic Fleet) and the United States Joint Forces Command are based in this major military center as well. Norfolk is also home to the Half-Moone Cruise and Celebrations Center. This 80,000-square-foot port launches many Bermuda- and Bahamas-bound luxury cruises.

The Waterside Festival Marketplace is a delightful waterfront destination for both visitors and residents. For those living in Norfolk apartments , there is shopping and dining to suit every taste, as well as a taste of the nightlife. Every June, Harborfest is held, featuring the Parade of Sail (tall sailing ships from around the world sail in a line past downtown to the marina), concerts, and fireworks.

The city logo, which features a young mermaid, is a symbol of the centuries of seafaring history that characterize the city of Norfolk.
