Although Hampton Roads and the surrounding cities aren’t home to any big-name sports teams, there is still plenty to see. Two professional sports teams from smaller leagues, as well as collegiate sports events, keep things lively.
Sports fans living in apartments in Norfolk can cheer on the Norfolk Tides, a triple-A baseball team from the International League that plays at Harbor Park. And the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League skate at Norfolk Scope Arena.
For those who follow collegiate sports, Old Dominion and Norfolk State have football, basketball, and baseball teams. Old Dominions Lady Monarch’s basketball team has won three national championships and been a runner-up in a fourth. Both these schools play NCAA Division 1 athletics. Other Division 1 teams in the area come from The College of William and Mary and Hampton University.
In addition to team sports, Langley Speedway hosts stock car racing for auto enthusiasts, and professional golf made its way to the area when Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg hosted an LPGA Tour event.
