What is there to do out in nature around L.A.?

If you live in downtown Los Angeles you may feel the need to escape the city every once in a while. Luckily this is easy to do, since the region offers so many places where you can go out and experience nature at its finest. Whether you like to ride your bike, hike, swim, surf or simply sit and commune with nature, you can find something to do in the region to suit your tastes. If you don’t have time to get outside of L.A. you can always take a trip to the Los Angeles Zoo, or spend a little time in one of the many parks in the city.

If you love golf, there are more than 80 public courses in the area to choose from, and the weather almost always cooperates. Hiking is another popular activity, and both Topanga State Park and Griffith Park offer some wonderful trips for those on foot. One terrific hike in the area is the Santa Monica Mountains Waterfall Trek, which is a great one to do in the spring. Surfers will be pleased to know that there are plenty of spots to go and practice. Beginners can check out Zuma Beach, while more experienced riders may want to hit Malibu and hang out with the pros. If you are not feeling quite that active you can also just bring a towel to the beach and watch the waves for a while.
