Ohio City, home of the landmark West Side Market, sits just west of downtown Cleveland, across the Cuyahoga River. The area is one of the city’s oldest neighborhoods. James A. Garfield, 20th president of the United States, preached at Franklin Circle Christian Church, located here.
Ohio City is a diverse community. Once predominately Irish and German, today more than fifteen different ethnic groups live in the area. This neighborhood is considered one of the premier areas to live in Cleveland.
This area is full of historic homes and commercial buildings, shops, and some of the city’s hottest restaurants and nightclubs. Ohio City was once named to Cottage Living’s "top 10 cottage communities" because of the sense of community that residents foster, keeping their eyes on the future and using creative problem-solving. Additionally, the neighborhood was chosen because of its quaint architecture and walkable streets. An ad for Ohio City says, “Bike to work. Walk to shops. Revel in history. Know your neighbors.”
