The draw of the water brings many people to the city of Poquoson, located on the Virginia Peninsula in the Hampton Roads metropolitan area. Of the 78-plus square miles that comprise the city, over 80% is water. Poquoson is the oldest continuously named city in Virginia. It boasts a very low crime rate, excellent schools, and a small-town feel, despite the fact that it’s close to some very large employment centers, namely NASA’s Langley facility, The Newport News Shipyard, and military sites, including Fort Eustis and the Navy Medical Center.
The city lies south of the average storm path, so it’s more protected from hurricanes and tropical storms than other cities in this part of Virginia and enjoys a rather mild four-season climate. This means outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy their activities year-round without much trouble. Poquoson apartments can be found in a wide array of neighborhoods and surrounding cities.
