On March 4, For Rent Media Solutions’ Gillian Luce spoke on Leveraging Social Media Marketing to a full house of colleagues and remote users via teleconference. The presentation was part of Dominion Enterprises – the parent company of For Rent Media Solutions – Search Engine Optimization (SEO) user group. The group formed earlier this year and meets monthly to share expertise and knowledge on SEO and related topics across the organization.
“Social media is about engagement,” said Gillian. “You want to be where your consumers are – whether it’s Facebook, MySpace, Twitter or another site – and join the conversation.”
The benefits of integrating social media with SEO are hot topics right now. In his column Let Your Social Media Help Your SEO, Digital Media Consultant Norm Elrod said, “Search is about figuring out what people are looking for when they enter keywords into their favorite search engine. Social media is what people are actually saying to each other; they’re telling us what they’re looking for. We, as marketers, should be able to fit it all together pretty nicely.”
Gillian addressed this point directly when she talked about how important social media content is when implementing SEO: “Content is king for SEO – information that’s interesting, informative and relevant is critical for them to forward it, like it or become a fan. Having a presence on social media and having relevant content can improve your ranking and your keyword reach in search engines and help you identify new keywords in your industry.”
Gillian joined For Rent Media Solutions in July 2007 and is now the Assistant Social Media Manager. She helps develop, execute and optimize a social media strategic plan across multiple channels; including blogs, social networks, video sharing sites, and other conversational media. She spends a great deal of time building relationships with consumers, social media influencers, and bloggers to generate awareness of the For Rent Media Solutions brand.
Participant feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and the presentation had one of the highest amounts of remote dial-ins for user group meetings thus far. Attendee Jennifer Williams found the presentation quite valuable: “I learned how to leverage social media to enhance SEO efforts, and what ways are best to track those efforts.”
