Poorly maintained and poorly managed
If you're looking into renting here because you find yourself moving to the greater Tuscaloosa area and everyone on Reddit encourages you to move to Northbrook--consider other options! I lived at Northbrook for 8 months while looking for a home to buy in the area. The apartment wasn't clean when we moved in (and when we moved out the front desk staff just told us to make sure it was "kind of clean" when we move out--so it doesn't seem that they hire professional cleaners between tenets), the... carpet was stained and at the end of its life, and the cabinets were covered in a residue. All fixtures in the apartment, including bathtubs, were decades old and scratched, and the overflow pipe in the bathtub was rusted and would feedback rust into a bath. I lived on the first floor and frequently had fire ants finding their way into my bedroom from the window.
What's worse is that the AC leaked twice in the span of 4 months. The first time, the carpet around the AC closet was wet--maintenance informed us that the property managers will not replace leaking systems until they completely die and that they just 'put a bandaid on it.' The second leak happened when I was out of town and was so bad that the carpet in the adjacent room was completely soaked through, mildewing and destroyed part of my record collection which was about 15 ft away from the AC closet.
I also received two notes threatening possible eviction in my door from management about 'an unauthorized cooler' that was supposedly on my porch--which was never on porch. When I reached out to the email provided on the note regarding their error, I never received an apology.
Poorly managed and poorly maintained.
