Every city has a sense of pride and landmarks that set it apart from other cities. You probably have fond memories of a certain landmark or experience in a city that means a lot to you. It could be Disney World in Orlando, Time Square in New York City, or the Monuments in Washington, DC. San Francisco has its own share of landmarks, experiences, and history that continue to draw tourism and new residents. Here are three things that San Francisco is known for that you will be proud of when you move to the area:

1. The Golden Gate Bridge- Featured in many movies, The Golden Gate Bridge has a rich history and still draws tourists. It was the longest suspension bridge in the world when it was built and it is still has the second longest suspension bridge main span in America. It is the long standing representation of San Francisco and California as a whole. In 1999, it was ranked fifth on the List of America’s Favorite Architecture by the American Institute of Architects.

2. The Weather- When you think of California, you probably think of year around heat. San Francisco is a little different. Temperatures only exceed 75 degrees 28 days out of the year. The average high is 63 degrees F and the average lows is 51 degrees F. San Francisco is surrounded on three sides by water, which makes its strongly influenced by the cool currents of the Pacific Ocean which leads to little seasonal temperature variation.

3. Cable Cars- The San Francisco cable car system is the world’s last permanently operational manually-operated cable car system, according to Wikipedia. They are used by commuters, but also serve as an attraction for tourists. The storied history of the cable car shows the resolve of San Franciscans, who fought to keep the cable cars even when their use came under attack
