Tips to Save Time When Packing for a Move

Tips to Save Time When Packing for a Move

At one point or another, everyone has to make a move. Whether it’s your first move or a move for a job, we all have to take that step eventually. Moving comes with plenty of challenges, but today let’s talk about a few ways you can not only save time but save your belongings. Gather Supplies Ahead of Time You can never prepare too early for a move. Once you know your move is definite, it’s time to start picking up your supplies. Make a checklist and start purchasing those things when you’re out running errands. You will always run across other items you need, but these will get you started! -Boxes (of different sizes) -Packing tape -Sharpie for labeling -Bubble wrap, newspaper and old towels Packing Tips Packing Supplies Pack in Tubs When Possible After many moves, I have determined that tubs are a great way to pack up. If you have items you plan to keep in closets or your outdoor storage closet, you might consider using tubs to keep from transferring these items after the move. This will keep them safer from the elements, including potential water damage and any insects that might be lurking in your new location. Packing Tips Tubs for Moving Organize by Room Try not to mix items from different rooms in the same box. This helps tremendously when unloading and unpacking. Once you pack each box, label it according to the room it will be in so that when you’re unloading, you can put it in the correct spot without moving it all over your new home. Packing Tips Labeling Don’t Pack Empty Space When packing, the goal is to get all your belongings into as few boxes as possible. To do this, make sure you fill any awkward spaces in your boxes with smaller items. It’s always best to start with your larger or heavier items on the bottom and work your way up, filling those empty spaces with smaller, lighter items. When packing anything delicate or glass, I like to use towels and washcloths for padding. This helps protect your items while eliminating boxes that would otherwise be filled with just towels. In addition, there are tons of other ways you can save on moving, so be sure and check out this post on how to save!
