How to Throw a March Madness Party while Still Being a Good Neighbor

Selection Sunday is quickly approaching, which means the craziness that is March Madness will be here before the Eastern Conferences are over. Soon, the 68 teams that have been selected will advance, and with those final plays will come the excitement that follows as sides are selected and rivalries declared. So, it’s only fitting that with each win comes an equally matched celebration to set the festivities off! So, here are a few tips about how to throw a March Madness party without turning into the world’s worst neighbor. Tip #1: Be considerate. Apartment complexes are notorious for thin walls. Keep your partying shenanigans within reasonable hours and at a reasonable volume. For added effect, extend the invite to your neighbors. Everyone enjoys feeling included and this will more than likely buy you a few extra hours and maybe one or two less noise complaints. You might be throwing a Sweet 16 celebration, but it’s not your birthday. Tip #2: Pace yourself. Remember it’s called March Madness for a reason, the excitement is going to continue on and chances are your parties will too, especially if your team advances. This isn’t a sprint; it’s a marathon of competitive sportsmanship. Save the biggest bash for the final four face-off.

Tip#3: If you only have a few numbers of parking spaces in your complex, suggest people car pool or catch an Uber. Nothing will upset your neighbors more then having to walk half a mile to their apartment from their cars. Tip #4: Keep your party in its designated location. Keep your guests out of the hallway and inside. If you have club house or common room in your complex, don’t take over the entire area unless you specifically rented it out. Tip #5: Make sure to clean up after yourself and your guests.  Don’t just stack your trash outside of your apartment door for the nightly pick-up; take the extra effort to drop it off yourself. Your neighbors will appreciate it and so will the maintenance staff. Follow these easy steps and your party is sure to be a success and keep your neighbors happy. Just don’t forget the most important tip, HAVE FUN!
