Living Back Home During the Summer – How to Survive

libros006

So now you are living back at home with your parents during the summer. How has that been going for you? Uh huh…that’s what we thought. Once you get that taste of freedom, it’s hard to go back to how it used to be. However, we have a little news for you, it isn’t easy on your parents and siblings either. So what to do? Let’s take a look at how to make the most of it and get ready to start the next semester with a successful summer behind you! Get a Job Is this cliche enough for you? Maybe your parents have said it to you every day since May? Well, there is a lot more to it than just getting out of the house. Yes, it allows you to earn some fun money for the summer, and even gives you some for going back to school if you are smart and save up what you’ve earned. However, it is also creating a network of coworkers and managers in your life that will help you to land a job once you are out of college. Getting your degree is a big deal, however, it does not guarantee you a career. Working summer jobs while you are in school is a great way to set yourself up for success after graduation in a few short years. Looking for summer job ideas? We’ve got you covered! Pick Up Around the House Want to show Mom and Dad a little gratitude for letting you live at home for free this summer? Do your part and help them out with the chores. It shows them you are growing up and not taking their help for granted. Trust me, you are going to need their help throughout college and beyond. You may as well set a good example for your siblings, impress your parents, and take a little bit of personal responsibility. Look at it this way, even if your parents overlook your willingness to help clean up, at least you get some cleaning practice for your own apartment back at school. Admit it, it was a little out of control last semester. Summer Classes Now, I know I sound like a crazy machine by suggesting you take summer courses, but just think about it for a minute. It allows you to either graduate faster or take less credit hours per semester which is amazing. It doesn’t allow your brain to go into the “summer funk” which leaves you scrambling to remember how to write a paper during the beginning of fall semester. And most importantly, it shows your parents that you are taking your college experience seriously and trying to get everything you possibly can out of it. Girl with a laptop on the table Yes, compared to your amazing off-campus college apartment, living back at home may seem a little dull at first. But it’s all what you make of it. In a few years, there is no difference between summer break and school. It just turns into real life year round. Enjoy these final years, show your parents you are taking life seriously, make the most out of a few months of free housing, and then enter back into the college machine at the end of August fresh and ready to roll!
