How to Beat Procrastination

How to Beat Procrastination

Why do today what you can put off till tomorrow?  Right?  This is the kind of thought that gets a lot of us into some very deep holes.  Allowing yourself to put off assignments and due dates again and again causes you to dread the final day.  Often you’re left cramming weeks worth of work into too small of a time frame and you become overwhelmed, stressed, and feel defeated.  But there are ways to pull yourself out of the slump.
  1. Focus are starting rather than finishing.  You know you have to finish something.  But if you tell yourself you need to at least start it, chances are the ball will keep rolling and sooner than later you’ll realize you’re almost done!
  2. Break a long project down into smaller tasks.  Setting up mini-deadlines makes the project seem less daunting and more doable.
  3. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself.  Striving for ultimate perfection can put a lot of unneeded stress on yourself and cause you to resent the work.  Instead, remember we are all human and just focus on getting it done efficiently.  You can always go back and fine tune it after.
  4. Make the work fun!  Schedule breaks, reward yourself with small treats along the way.  Rewards should be small, frequent, and deserved.  It will work wonders!
Most of all, stay positive and motivate yourself!     Picture from:  flo450d on flickr.com
