Even though winter can get horribly cold and miserable to be out in, it has to be one of my favorite seasons to decorate. The abundance of light that bounces in off the snow, the cozy feeling of snuggling up under a warm blanket, the beautiful layers on top of layers and the added texture is just simply the best!
I wanted to tackle bedrooms today because they are the main place in which we imagine curling up away from the cold. There are several different options for achieving a cozy bedroom space, and there is never a right or wrong way to do it. It’s your space, and making a cozy winter bedroom is super easy to do!

Ticking has long been associated with bedrooms.
Ticking definitely makes a space more inviting, so it can be a really great option for a guest room.
I love the look of a ticking duvet with a nice, thick comforter insert inside. It makes the space feel warm and adds a great layer to the room.

Layers on top of layers. On top of layers. I can’t get enough!
I am a huge fan of throw blankets, especially in the winter, as I am always under one if I am sitting down or in bed.
Toss one on the end of your bed for added texture and layering. We always use them during the night, pulling the blanket up when it gets cold.
I am also digging the chunky look, whether it’s fur or a heavy knitted throw.

Winter is a great time to make everything as simple and easy as possible. With the craziness that comes from the holidays, it’s nice to come home to a space that is uncluttered and simple.
Simplify your nightstand by clearing off what you don’t need.
Plain and simple bedding, with a throw of course, won’t make the space feel too stuffy, especially if your square footage is at a minimum.
Warm up your room by throwing down a fur rug for your feet to land on during those cold, winter months.

White on white on white. Are you seeing a trend here?
This look has cozy winter written all over it.
By pulling in different shades of white, this look will last you long into next year.
If you are loving this look but are worried about it appearing a little bland, throw in a mixture of textures and patterns in the same family. Stripes, a printed pillow and a chunky, woven throw complete this cozy space.

Add a finishing touch with accent lighting. I have talked about using strand lighting before here. It is a great way to personalize a space. And right in line with everything mentioned here, it can make a space feel more inviting and welcoming.
Winter isn’t always light and bright. Some days it can be really overcast and dark outside. Overhead lights can be quite harsh, especially during the winter. By adding a strand of light here and there, you’ll have light just where you want or need it.
