When I think of Valentine’s Day, I always think of chocolate and hearts. So when I was deciding on what treat to share with all of you, it was a no-brainer! Sugar cookies topped with a chic chocolate heart are the perfect sweet to enjoy with your sweetie. You don’t need a big fancy kitchen to make them, you only need a mixer (or hand mixer) and an oven. They’re perfect for getting the kids involved, too!

Personally, I love gifting a little treat like these chocolate heart sugar cookies to the neighbors and dear friends during Valentine’s Day season. Especially if you live in an apartment and have neighbors in close proximity, it can be nice to send out a “sweet” gesture every once in awhile. These are so delicious and everyone will surely love them!

If you’re hosting a larger Valentine’s Party, then set up the sugar cookies with a variety of chocolates from milk to white and sprinkles too. Let your guests add their own hearts and decorate them to their heart’s content (pun intended)! This is such a fun activity for kids as well as adults. Add in a delicious red or pink cocktail if it’s an adults party.

I’m excited about sharing this sugar cookie recipe because it’s a great one to have for year-round uses. From holiday cookie decorating to birthdays and parties, this is definitely one you’ll find yourself coming back to time and time again. It’s easy to make, only takes a few ingredients, and tastes amazing. Plus, It’s perfect for decorating! You can make your cookies any size you prefer, but I like about a 1-2 inch ball which makes a 3-4 inch cookie. If you’re really feeling creative, make one big cookie the size of your cookie sheet and decorate it like a pizza but with frosting and fruit slices for toppings. There are so many creative ways to use a great sugar cookie dough. Let’s get on the to the details of the recipe, shall we?

1 ½ cups white granulated sugar
1 egg

1 cup semi-sweet or milk chocolate chips (or chopped bars)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. With a mixer, cream together butter and sugar. In a separate mixing bowl, combine all dry ingredients. Add egg and extracts to wet ingredients and beat until combined. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients in increments until fully combined. Roll out 1-2” balls of cookie dough and place on a parchment-lined cookie sheet.
