Apartment Living BlogFood & Entertaining › Pittsburgh Dining on a Budget: Good Eats for Cheap

The food scene in Pittsburgh has gradually become a point of interested for many grub lovers. Whether you’re going out with your friends, planning a date night, or looking for some new, food place ideas, grabbing a tasty meal doesn’t have to put a big dent in your wallet.

We have compiled a list of some of the Steel City’s best stops for reasonably priced food, which still deliver happy feelings to your taste buds.

Pamela’s Diner

A Pittsburgh favorite since the 1980’s, Pamela’s Diner spots can be found in Shadyside, Oakland, The Strip District, and Millvale. Not only do these breakfast-all-day diners offer top-notch hotcakes and crepes, but you also get a hefty plate worth of food for the price. Stop into one of these four locations and try out their Banana Walnut Hotcakes for a sweet, delicious morning treat.

Noodlehead

If you like Thai food, this Shadyside-based restaurant offers plenty of noodle options on the cheap. Sitting on the bustling, Highland Avenue, Noodlehead features a rustic and chic environment that makes for a comfortable eating experience. If you like seafood, try their Green Curry Linguine, with semolina noodles, clams, and basil. Not big on fish? The Pad Thai at this spot is definitely worth a taste.

Uncle Sam’s Sandwich Bar

Another grub hub located around Pittsburgh, Uncle Sam’s Sandwich Bar is found in Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, Robinson, and Waterworks. Sometimes a sandwich sounds like the perfect, Saturday lunch, and this location offers a wide range of well-crafted subs for a good price. Ask for Ultra Uncle Sam’s Special, for a combination of cheese steak, mushrooms, sweet peppers, grilled onions, and provolone cheese.

City renters can stop into one of these restaurants and enjoy a game of trivia and a local brew. If you’re a meat eater, try their Pittsburgh hotdog, with vinegar slaw; potato and cheese pierogis; and a hotdog. Locals can also enjoy Franktuary’s mouthwatering Québécoise, with fries, cheese curds, and house gravy. Yum!
