Anticipate interview questions: It would be great if we all knew what the interviewer is going to ask, but that’s not the case. After you complete your research, prepare candid responses based on your new knowledge about the company. To help prepare the responses, think of questions that the interviewer might ask based on what their company does. Some questions may include:
- What do you know about the company? And what about our work interests you?
- How do you think this position will assist our company and the work we do?
- What are your weaknesses? (it’s a basic question, but it is still asked every once in a while because no one is going to list their weaknesses on their resume.)
What to bring: Do not come empty handed! This is a BIG no-no. Make sure to bring a few extra copies of your resume. You never know who you will be meeting with and who will ask for a copy. Also, make sure to bring a notepad and pen. You will want to make note of important things you discuss with your interviewer. Next, if applicable, bring a portfolio of your work. Interviewers always do their research on the interviewee beforehand, however sometimes they will forget a thing or two. Providing a hard copy of your previous work is a great opportunity to remind the interviewer your accomplishments.
Follow up: Just before the interview comes to a close, interviewers will most likely ask you if you have any additional questions. This is something that you need to prep for ahead of time, so make sure you have all of your questions written down. Having nothing to say, might make you seem not so interested in the position. So here are some questions to help start your list:
- What is the word environment like?
- What are the growth opportunities like?
- What are the next steps in the hiring process?
