Hillside Terrace Apartments

My choice of this complex was its location and monthly rent. I needed to downsize from a large 3bd/2ba apartment that was outdated and mice infested; and the property management company increased the rent. So I decided to downsize and move when my lease ended. I live in Southern California and the economic standard of supply and demand absolutely applies here. There is a low supply of rentals in San Diego County with a high demand. So owners and property managers can assess rent at higher prices… . Lemon Grove is one of the smaller communities east of San Diego so there are opportunities to rent for less. My 2bd/2ba (2 full baths) apartment is 900sq ft; but the layout makes it appear and feel larger. There was an update completed recently so upgraded carpet was installed, new paint throughout, new cabinet doors and fixtures in the bathrooms and kitchen, new flooring in the entry, baths and kitchen and new appliances (black instead of white). There are laundry facilities (two) on the property so the washer/dryer situation is still convenient. I have covered parking that is included in the rent. (There was a monthly fee for covered parking at my former place.) There is a wall unit air conditioner (my former place had center air/heating); but the point is I still have air conditioning. So it was worth the move even though I gave up amenities such as a business center, wi-fi in the business center, a recreation center, a washer/dryer in the unit and central air/heating.

This complex is conveniently located on three bus routes and within walking distance of a major shopping center. Two of the bus routes connect to San Diego's light rail system (San Diego Trolley). There is a local shopping center with small businesses, shops, fast food, gas stations and a major grocery store.

I think these are the things a renter should look for in their search for an apartment. It took a long time to find a place because vacancies are few and the apartments rent quickly. But it is important to stay committed and systematic in your search. Read More
