Constant security issues

I’ve been living at Aspen Apartments for about two years now. Let me start by saying the nature here is really nice — lots of trees and wildlife that make the place feel calm and peaceful. The amenities are pretty good too. The clubhouse is nice, the pools are well kept, the gym has good equipment, and the laundry facilities are convenient.

But honestly, the security situation has been a nightmare. I own a $2,500 bike that got stolen right out of the garage. Packages worth hundreds of dollars… disappeared from my porch. Because of all this, I started locking the garage door to keep my stuff safe, but one of my neighbors actually broke the door because he didn’t like it being locked. That’s when I realized how little respect and security there really is around here.

What really blows my mind is that for the rent we’re paying, there are no security cameras anywhere on the property. That’s just unacceptable. Management doesn’t seem to care much either. I’ve made complaints about the thefts, the lack of cameras, and noisy, disrespectful neighbors, but nothing gets done. Some residents even wear ankle monitors, which just adds to the uncomfortable vibe.

Parking is another headache. You only get one assigned spot per apartment. If you have two cars, good luck finding parking after 5 PM — it’s nearly impossible. It’s a daily source of stress for me and others I know.

At one point, I had a flea infestation caused by a neighbor’s cat wandering into my unit. Even then, management didn’t do much to help. Instead, they told me I should just move out because I complained too much. That made me feel like my safety and comfort aren’t priorities here at all.

So yeah, while Aspen Apartments has some nice things — the nature and amenities are solid — the constant security issues, rude neighbors, unhelpful management, and parking troubles make it a really frustrating place to live. For the rent we pay, I expected way better protection and respect.

DISAPPOINTED TENANTS

We are tenants for several years and are happy with the environment. However, we are disappointed with the lack of security and support from the management. I have a brand new car, 3 weeks old, and we're frustrated seeing it hit and run inside the gated parking area. We reported it to the property management office and we appreciate their “ohhh so sorry for what happened to you” reaction. There is no security camera considering that it is a huge apartment complex.
They stopped accepting the… deliveries of the package by the tenants that's why the delivery trucks are all over the place blocking some cars to get out. I even have incidents of losing packages since they instructed the delivery right into the front door of each tenants.
We’re planning to move out the soonest.

Old Buildings

We had problems with the hot water heater that went on for weeks. Several times they shut the water off during most of the day to repair the problem. Finally, one morning there was no hot water at all, cold showers in the morning. That got them to replace the hot water heater after another day of no hot water. Although they eventually get around to fixing their problems, it is the tenant that has to deal with the situation while management diddles themselves.

Bath sink drain smells like sewer

The sink smells like sewer gas. I asked the management to do something and they came and snaked it but it still smells terrible. I complained about it again and their response was to pour some chlorine down the drain. I tried that and no difference. Something is wrong in these old buildings and the management won't fix the problem.

Beautiful! Perfect! I love it! but...

Hands down the most beautiful and perfect apartment complex to call home in OC. Staff is great, safe, clean, convenient, etc. However, be prepared to pay for water! And it's ridiculously expensive. Each unit isn't metered in order to pay for what you and only you use. No. Each cluster of apartments (consisting of 4 to 6) has one meter and each unit gets equal split from the whole. Sounds okay, right? No again. Because you're not just paying for your apartment cluster's either! You're actually… paying for that AND the cost of watering the beautiful grounds. The association doesn't foot the bill. And the price is variable bill-to-bill. Expect your water bills to range between $80-$100! This is not communicated with potential tenants when they're signing the rental agreement. Just that you will be responsible for your own gas, electric, and oh yeah, water. Real bummer, considering how wonderful everything else is about this place.
