Suffield West Apartments

I lived here for a year in a 2 bedroom apartment, which are similar to the 1 bedroom apartments they offer. This review is based on that experience. There are also townhouse-style apartments, which I know are different/nicer.

Moreover, I enjoyed my experience living here! The area is safe and close to the center of town. You’re also close to the airport, and within a 15 minute or so drive from Hartford or Springfield (depending on traffic).

Other than laundry facilities (no in-unit laundry)... and parking, there are no other major amenities. This isn’t a big deal if you’re someone who doesn’t desire a lot, and I was not upset about it. You do not need to pay for parking, and there’s plenty of it. They also generally do a good job with plowing. I did not have a bad experience with maintenance while I was here also. They were pretty responsive and rather quick to address apartment-related concerns, specifically.

I think two of my biggest concerns living here were:
1.) Generally speaking, there’s only 1 (maybe 2) laundry machines to a building, which is not enough. Frequently you had to wait to do laundry because it was in use. Many take their clothes to a laundromat. The laundry machines, in my experience, were also not well cared for. 2.) The noise in the 1 @ 2 bedroom buildings is pretty bad. The buildings are old, and the walls are thin. There’s one review out there that stated that if you were quiet enough you could hear talking; that’s pretty true unfortunately. You can imagine what that means if there are pets. I can’t speak for the townhouses, but unless there are serious building updates, that noise won’t likely change anytime soon.

I am a current resident and have been for the past 5 plus years. I have to say, I disagree with the other reviews. Has the property gone through several changes such as new ownership/management yes it has but with any change there will be growing pains. The new owners/management have been nothing but kind, responsive, and attentive. The maintenance staff is the best of the best, if you have a concern they are literally there within a day or so. The property is very safe, the neighbors are kind... and respectful. Are the cabinets a bit outdated, yes but that is the least of my worries when it comes to renting a home. The entire Property was purchased a year ago and has gotten much worse under the new management. They now want $800 more for a 2 bedroom then they wanted 2 years ago yet they have cut maintenance to the bare minimum. They no longer spray for insects so the rotting wood siding has all kinds of critters nesting in it. The basement floods when it rains and is covered in mold. The on site laundry is frequently not working or refuses to dry your clothes properly. Our in wall air conditioner has been... broken all summer and they haven't replaced it even with several requests. The cabinets and bathrooms are circa 1960. If you were unlucky enough for them to force a bath fitters plastic facelift on your tub, then you'll pay even more at your next lease agreement. None of the interior door close properly so a nice breeze will bang the doors open and closed all day. The parking lot is a disaster of potholes and tree roots. Parking lot snow removal is pretty slow and you better have 4wd to get your car out. The dumpsters and recycling bins are not adequate for the amount of people living here and are overflowing before pickup every week. They just added an addendum that requires renters insurance of 100k worth of protection per unit. Probably to protect them for when the roof finally caves in on this place. This place is not worth the money. The cabinets are over 50 years old, they painted over the old doors, walls, etc. You can hear everything from people above insultation is basically none. There is a mice problem....the basement are moldy with white mold growing on the ceilings....the basement get flooded when it rains, there is one washer and one dryer for 8 units. they are always running . Also if you live in he apartment over the washer you have to turn your TV up cause you can here it... running. The parking is horrible! The walkaways are always flooded with water after it rains. NO amenities at ALL!!!!! Also just one wall unit air conditioner in all apartments. They are in the living room and the bedrooms etc are always hot in the summer as they do not cool down the unit. Apartments are out dated and not worth their asking price. We lived there for 2 years. Nothing is updated just painted over. Yeah they may replace your toilet before you move in but that’s all. The vanity is old and gross. The tubs are bath fitted but still the originals from the 60s/70s. The parking a mess with tons of people who don’t live there parking in front of the apartments stopping people who live there from parking by their apartments. While tons of parking, there should be a... designated guest spot. The trash is a mess too as people who live there will throw away anything they have- mattresses, dressers, car body parts, and other things that should be dumped at the dump.
