None of the amenities work

The amenities are really just a work of performance art rather than amenities. The management will put on "out of order signs" on the amenities and the take them down during apartment tours. There are three treadmills... only one of them works and this has been the case for over 6 months.

It's a nice building... but maybe not worth the price. If you do choose to move here, just know that the amenities are kind of just there for the visuals and to get more people to move in, not really for...
functionality.

Do not move here

Seek information from the DC Tenant Advocate's Office before signing a lease here. The management company for this building uses "concessions" to circumvent rent control laws, meaning INSANE rent increases if you stay longer than a year. If you do not agree to the higher rent and refuse to sign another year lease, you are charged an even more insane rent (we are talking $1600 per month more) for the monthly price. And "just leaving" at the end of your lease isn't an option, because you have to... give them 60 days notice that you are moving out. So you are stuck either signing on for a year of an absurdly high rent, or two months of about double your rent (the "monthly rent"). This experience has been a nightmare.

Good location, high rent

Half of the apartments are renovated and soon after all are, the rent will be much higher. It is currently reasonable in a un renovated apartment. There is a great laundry room, exercise room and business center. A rooftop.

It is very safe, with fob entries and someone always working the front desk. Mostly young tenants...20s or 30s.

Resident

I love Cleveland House apartments. Despite being a dated building, the staff are wonderful and the location is incredible. Woodley Park is green and safe and still close to everything, especially on the Red Line! I highly recommend this apartment house.

Living on the Edge (of the most beautiful houses ever!)

I am very, very happy at Cleveland House. Let's talk about why.

LOCATION:
It is situated about 0.4 miles from Connecticut Ave, right on the edge of the very wealthy part of Woodley Park that is home to rows of beautiful houses. There are only trees opposite the apartment complex, which provides a suburban, tucked away feel. At the same time, however, the metro and shopping on Connecticut Ave are still very close by. Cleveland House is also only 0.3 miles from Rock Creek Parkway which, for...
someone who hates driving through the city to get out of it, is very valuable (Rock Creek Park also has a very scenic running path, for those who enjoy the outdoors while being in the city). Finally, Woodley Park is just north of Dupont Circle, so that you feel removed from the feeling of downtown while not being too far away.

AMENITIES:
Cleveland House has a gym that is a small to medium sized (2 treadmills, an elliptical, a bike, an erg, an all-purpose weight lifting machine).
There is a very pretty, well-kept roof deck that my roommates and I have used countless times (there is a no-alcohol rule, but so long as you are not rowdy, you won't have any issues).
There is a parking garage where a tandem spot (one long spot that fits two cars, with one blocking in the other) costs $250. Split between two, this rate is about half the cost of most other places in the city. Guests can park in the garage for $10 per night.
Some apartments have a patio with access to a central courtyard, though mine does not.

APARTMENT:
My apartment has a washer/dryer in unit. I have heard that only a handful of units have this luxury. There is a laundry room for those who do not, which I honestly cannot comment on because I have never visited it.
The apartment kitchens and bathrooms are somewhat outdated, but as a young professional this really does not bother me. There is a dishwasher as well as all other standard appliances. They are in the process of upgrading the apartments, however.

STAFF:
Cleveland House has a 24-hr concierge (important for a young female professional like myself). The staff could not be more friendly or more helpful.

COST:
For 2-BR apts, they are somewhat expensive. What most people don't know, however, is that they have several converted 2-BRs that serve as 3-BRs AT THE SAME 2-BR PRICE. The third bedroom has a window and is 10'x11'. You would never know it wasn't supposed to be there, as there is still plenty of room in the living area.
