The well-manicured lawns and dazzling mansions that call the area home hold incredible history as well. This walkable area is largely residential, but it still draws in tourists looking to gawk at the opulent residences. Quick access to the French Quarter and the walking trails along the Mississippi River make for an active community of long-time residents. Upscale eateries and boutiques line Magazine Street, and the neighborhood is awash in houses to tour. The Garden District is part of the annual Mardi Gras parade, making it a hotspot for residents and visitors alike. Rentals are hard to find in this upscale section of New Orleans, but there are incredible apartments to be found in historic buildings.
