We are seeking a unique ONE-PERSON tenant who works away from home to live in our ohana unit, as we are... off-grid and has electricity limitations on non-sunny days. This is either considered an open 1 bedroom or a large studio.

This peaceful and quiet rental is located in the Waiakea Uka area in Hilo, and is about 570 square feet, including the loft area (the loft has a low/slanted ceiling!). It is fully furnished with a full kitchen. The studio was recently renovated with new paint, flooring, and features throughout.

The ohana unit sits on about 4.5 acres of peaceful orchards, gardens, and lawn - this property is for those who want the quiet and tranquil farm-like life but still 10 minutes away from stores and shops! You are welcome to share the harvest of the many different fruits on the property (oranges, pomelos, tangerines, lemons, limes, starfruit, bananas, pineapples, etc.). There are great views of Mauna Kea from most areas of the property.

The ohana unit (as well as the main house on the property) is completely off-grid so nature provides for electricity and water. But because we are on solar energy, laundry is restricted to non-rainy times of the day (9am-3pm). This unit is for someone who works elsewhere during the day, due to the amount of solar that can be generated a day. So if you work from home, even part time, this is not the place for you…we are sorry.

The ohana unit is connected to a separate secondary garage that is used when the tenant is not home (not daily since the main garage is connected to the main house). The entrance to this ohana rental is through the separate secondary garage.

- Fully furnished with queen bed, dining table, and stocked kitchen (gas stove, fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, dishes, pots, pans, utensils, etc.)
- Limited use of shared washer / dryer - Since we are off-grid, it may only be used on non-rainy days between 9AM-3PM
- Off street parking next to the Ohana unit (for one car only, all others must park out on the street)

- No pets…non-negotiable.
- This is a quiet and tranquil retreat out in nature. It's probably not the right fit if you are looking for an active social atmosphere
- No smoking, vaping, or drugs permitted on the premises
- No EV charging
- No use of additional high amperage electrical devices (e.g. heater, air con, dehumidifier, etc.) since the off-grid system will not support it
- No county housing
- Minimum lease term of 6 months; 1 year preferred


$1,500 per month
$1,500 Security deposit


Please be careful as there are scammers out there who may use our post/pictures to get you to pay them a cheap deposit to secure a fake rental. We would not ask you to give us any money before meeting each other in person, you touring this place, our mutual agreement on your renting this place, a background check, and a written lease agreement first.
