It's a gamble.
The apartments themselves are very spacious with lots of storage and right in the area of a lot of dining or activity options. Northbrook, itself, is a very nice area to being able to live there affordably is great! The thing with Salem Walk itself is that it has a lot of mixed opinions on it because each building is owned by someone different. The whole complex was made in the 1970's, making it a fairly old building. With age means that the landlords of each build must keep on top of... renovations for their respective property. You may get a building that has a long lineage of diligent landlords that continue to renovate and modernize or you might have a building that's been long neglected over the decades with the only repairs being made are the ones that would put residents' lives in danger if the repair goes ignored. And you've got everywhere in between. If you're looking at this property, ask the landlord questions. Don't just look at the model in the front office and assume the unit you're moving into will look just like that. Study as much of the building as you can. Look for signs of TLC and/or signs of neglect. Spend some time looking around the surrounding area. With the building being old, the walls are thin and the sounds you hear your first time there WILL become a regular thing. At the end of the day, if you feel something off, don't brush it off. Trust your gut.
