Thin floors, no sleep
I’ve lived here for 4 years. The first two were good. The last two have been a disappointment. If you’re in a studio, expect to hear everything from the unit above. For the past two years, I haven’t had a full night’s sleep due to my upstairs neighbor, despite blasting white noise and wearing earplugs. This may be less of an issue in 1-2 bedrooms with carpeted bedrooms.
Noise complaints are initially acknowledged, but ongoing issues are met with diminishing responses. The building’s structure... will just never support quiet living.
Other drawbacks: odd air circulation brings in strong smells from other units, and if you face south, the nearby gas station will fill your apartment with fumes when the wind shifts.
Positives about the building- big gym, in unit washer/dryer, responsive maintenance (just don’t be surprised when the horrors they fish from your drain are left rotting in your trash).
I truly hope the next person in my studio has a better experience. Given such low quality building construction, I’d encourage you to find another building given rent is as high as downtown Chicago.
