RUN AWAY
The final straw was my over-the-range microwave literally falling out of the wall while I was gone, crashing onto the stove, turning multiple burners on by itself, and shattering glass across my apartment while my pets were home alone. Behind it was a large unsealed wall cavity with exposed insulation that management claimed was “not a code violation” because the microwave supposedly acted as a “seal.” That was false. I contacted the Vanderburgh County Building Commission myself, & the county... inspector officially confirmed it IS a code violation & issued notice to the property owner.
Management still refused reimbursement for damaged property & denied any rent consideration.
The apartments are cheaply renovated lipstick-on-a-pig units. Countertops are wrapped in cheap material that yellows, paint was sloppily left all over the floors before move-in, & maintenance repairs are lazy temporary fixes instead of actual repairs. My dishwasher smelled moldy & instead of replacing the filter, maintenance rinsed it with bleach and shoved it back in.
The smell of marijuana constantly came through the bathroom pipes and ventilation from neighboring units to the point my apartment regularly smelled like weed. I complained verbally, by email, & in writing multiple times — including after becoming pregnant because I did not want secondhand smoke exposure. I even sent management video evidence of a resident smoking and entering the building with a blunt. Nothing changed.
The walls are paper thin. Neighbors blast music loud enough to shake the apartment, smoke on balconies constantly, and management does little to nothing about complaints.
The dumpster area is disgusting and regularly overflowing into the parking lot.
I also dealt with birds nesting in the siding by my balcony for YEARS. Bird droppings covered the balcony, walls, railing, and doors so badly the balcony was basically unusable. Management repeatedly ignored complaints and even tried to charge me for cleaning bird droppings that were there before I moved in.
And if you think you can simply leave after your lease ends, think again. After completing my 12-month lease, I was told I would owe massive extra charges if I didn’t provide a 60-day notice, which essentially trapped me into renewing.
There are MUCH nicer apartments in Evansville and Newburgh for the same price or cheaper. Do not let the “renovated” appearance fool you. This place is poorly managed, cheaply updated, & not worth the stress.
