Poor Management

I have lived at this apartment complex for a little over a year. I was attracted to this property because the price was right and the apartments had been recently renovated. Last January there was an unoccupied apartment above mine whose pipes burst. I came home to 2 inches of black water in my apartment with more water continuing to rush in. I promptly contacted management and they sent a maintenance person with a shop vac and some fans. After spending the entire day washing items that had been... on the floor and attempting to mop up the remaining water I contacted management to see what could be done about the items that had been damaged. Their response was that per my rental agreement they would not pay for any damaged items or the cost of clean up (which was not in the agreement). I asked them several times who lived in the apartment that flooded they told me "we are not holding anyone responsible". They denied that the apartment was unoccupied because admitting that it was vacant and thus their responsibility would have admitted fault and responsibility for damages. So not only was I stuck over $600 in damages but I also spent the next week trying to clean up the mess. I have always paid rent on time, kept my place neat, and have been cordial with management. Instead of being treated with mutual respect, I was met with and deception and disdain. I wasn't looking for some big pay out only an appropriate discount on that months rent for the verifiable damages that had occurred because of their negligence.
