I walked into the management office at 9:20 AM on a Tuesday. No one was in the office and so i said hello a couple times and then looked through the hallway.
I found her in some common room type thing and asked if she was the manager. She replied yes. I asked if she had any one bedrooma available. She looked me up an down (mind you I'm 26 but i was in business casual clothing and spoke intelligently and kindly.)and said no with an attitude. I then said "oh ok well anything else for rent?" Then... with that zig zag attitude head movement she gets a dirty look on her face and a sarcastic tone in her voice and says "the only applications I'm accepting for one bedrooms is for 62 and older. Sorry! Bye." And so i said oh ok and walked away. She starts literally running after me and pushes the door open to get me out like i was going to steal something and says bye again with an extremely dirty look and very rude attitude and demeanor.
I could not believe the audacity and unprofessionalism of this woman. And then the illegal ageism she turned me away for was obvious because this was not a senior living community. They will be lucky if i don't sue.
Ive lived in the same place for 2 years and my previous home before that even longer. My fiance and i have had constant income for over 6 years. No recent criminal infractions. Both have gone to college and i drove up in a decent car. Her just assuming im trash because im looking for an apartment in portland and im younger and treating me as such when i don't know this woman from adam was downright awful and i will never go back there but i will be making a complaint.
