Beekman on Broadway

Beekman is certainly not the worst apartment option in Ann Arbor, but for what they charge, it may well be the worst value you can find. The location is great, it has all the amenities, and the staff are pleasant. But the building quality and attention to problems are pitiful.

In one year at Beekman, I’ve experienced major issues with my apartment. The first was an HVAC malfunction which cost me hundreds of dollars in electricity. The second was a complete failure of cold running water which... has not been fixed after 3 weeks (and counting). That’s right... I have a “luxury apartment” with no cold running water.

Don’t sign a lease here without Googling “Beekman construction delay” to see what happened to the scores of residents who signed leases for unfinished units. Delays happen, but it’s a pattern. Majority of early mornings (4-7 a.m.), there is harsh noises bound to wake residents up from
a. the garbage truck at ~5-7 a.m., particularly when bangs the metal garbage container to garbage truck to empty out container or when it makes a loud beeping alarm when it drives back forth
b. Construction which mostly starts at 7 a.m.
c. the loud blow horn of the nearby Amtrak train at ~4:30 a.m.
I used earplugs all throughout my stay here, but all of the earplugs that I tried weren’t able to help... me not be awaken by the noise.

There's construction right outside. The construction has caused the air quality to be unhealthy. The construction dust and debris can be smelled in both outside and inside the apartment complex. I frequently experienced tightening of my chest when I lived here and much of it probably had to do with living around the construction dust and debris.

Management has a mean and careless attitude towards residents. With that in mind, they’re not reliable in resolving problems residents have.
