If you’re considering renting here, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Don’t get fully settled in before you realize what you’re dealing with.
The manager herself has been great and seems to do what she can, but unfortunately, it feels like she’s limited by the condition of the property and what she has to work with.
The buildings are old and falling apart. Rent has increased every year by around 5% or more, with property taxes cited as a reason. I would strongly encourage anyone… considering renting here to look into the property’s tax history and compare it with the rent increases for themselves.
Honestly, I also don’t understand why the rent is as high as it is. This is a small town, and unless you work right in the village, you’re generally going to have to drive somewhere else for work. When you factor in the rent, the condition of the buildings, the size of the apartments, and the lack of included amenities, I personally don’t feel the price matches what you’re getting.
The apartments also do not seem to match the pictures shown online. The buildings and common areas are in rough condition. Hallway carpets are stained, there are persistent unpleasant odors in and around the buildings, and the outdoor trash area can be especially bad.
There have also been serious maintenance issues. Third-floor apartments have experienced ceiling leaks and even sections of ceilings caving in. I know of renters who have had to remain in their apartments with holes in their ceilings during the winter while waiting for repairs.
The laundry facilities are another problem. The washers can be extremely loud, and there have been times when machines stopped working mid-cycle, leaving clothes sitting in standing water.
The apartments themselves are very small, and there are essentially no amenities included beyond trash service. For the rent being charged, I expected much better living conditions.
My advice: look around before signing a lease and compare your options. Drive a little farther and see what else is available. Don’t get stuck settling in and then find yourself wanting to move right back out. Read More
