Former Resident
When I moved into 307 W 93rd I thought I found my dream apartment at a steal of a price. New renovations in my unit, great location, lots of light. Little to complain about, except the condition of the actual building. It was visibly dirty, and the trash cans were kept in the hallways, often overflowing. I only saw people clean once a week - I figured I didn't care about the state of the building, as long as I could make my apartment my own. I cleaned it weekly, never left food out, and took the... trash out daily.
About 1.5 months in, I saw my first roach. Naturally, I freaked, bought Raid, and killed it. I reported it to the super. He came in with Raid the next day and sprayed everywhere. He assured me I didn't have an infestation, but over the next 2 weeks, I saw more and more bugs in and out. I killed as many as I could and eventually got management involved. They hired the most incompetent exterminator I have ever met, required me to miss work to let him into my apartment (he was late), and he sprayed for maybe 2 mins. He actually sprayed one roach into my apartment and told me it wasn't his problem to move it.
Needless to say, I eventually lost it when I saw a roach in my sleeping loft. I moved in p/t with a friend, p/t with my parents in another state. In total, I spent at least $850 out of pocket on commuting, cleaning, and a one-night hotel expense.
The management company wouldn't admit there were actually bugs in my place until I started attaching photos to my emails. They also insisted the exterminator reported my apartment as bug-free, even though when I spoke to him on the phone he would tell me about the roaches he was flushing down the toilet (or sometimes just leaving, unflushed, as a surprise for me when I came home).
I eventually had to move out, for my own sanity and health hazards. The management company, after a month and a half of this, wasn't resolving a thing. Because of the photos and written communication, they knew I had a court case. They wanted me out of the apartment just as much as I wanted out, and literally paid me off to leave (about 1.5 months rent... although at that point I hadn't been living there for a month). I took it and ran. I am just now trying to warn anyone who might care: this place is cheap for a reason - it's dirty as hell, and management is shady af. I was the first person to live in the unit, and it was infested in less than 2 months. If you don't mind sleeping with bugs, then this is the place for you.
