Parisien' feel
Classic Manhattan pre-war, in this case WW1, built in 1904. Beaux Arts masterpiece know as The Chatsworth, after the Duke of Devonshire's stately home in the UK. For many years had non-institutional landlord, lots of deferred maintenance until grandson took over ten years or so ago. He added a penthouse that Conan O'Brien rented for several years. This considerably raised NOI (I assume), funding many upgrades and an historically accurate restoration of lobby and porte cochere.
Rooms are large,... with high ceilings and very comfortable. Kitchens and baths a bit dated, but seem to add to the above indicated Parisien' feel of living there. Good old fashioned steam heat, which can be tempered by cracking a window. Not going to win any LEED awards.
New ownership (HFZ) is converting about half the units to condo, combining many to make very large 3-4 bedroom apartments. Hopefully the remaining rentals will benefit from new mechanical systems (HVAC would be nice)
Located at the West end of 72nd Street opposite the former home of William Randolph Hearst at One Riverside Drive. It is rumored that back then, he and other wealthy men kept their mistresses at The Chatsworth. While Death Wish was filmed in the 70s on the immediate streets and park, today, it's a great place to raise family. There are multiple private school options and the address falls in to the zone for he better public school. It is right opposite the South end of Riverside Park which has multiple playgrounds and connects to future President Trump's Riverside South residential and recreational complex. There are also several casual dining options in the park and along the Hudson River. Along with the usual Upper West Side amenities is an IRT express stop at 72nd and Broadway. A great place to live in NYC.
