After Only Three Months at The Weston Apartments
Please read this before signing a lease at Weston Apartments.
I moved to Philadelphia from the South just three months ago and have already experienced numerous issues that have made living here incredibly frustrating. Because I was relocating from afar, I had to rely heavily on virtual tours. Unfortunately, the reality of living here has not matched what was presented. A few major concerns from my short time as a resident:
1. No On-Site Management: There is no staff physically on-site. All... issues must be handled via email or phone, and reaching someone is hit-or-miss. The emergency maintenance line is unreliable, no one has ever answered when I’ve called. The only time I see staff is when they’re showing the building to potential tenants.
2. Frequent Flooding: My bathroom, kitchen, and closet have flooded twice due to an improperly installed washing machine. Both times this occurred on a Saturday, and I was told I’d have to wait until Monday for assistance. I had to clean the flooding myself using my personal towels, with no immediate support provided.
3. Unclean Common Areas: The hallway carpets are filthy (see photos), and there is a frequent smell of marijuana that often seeps into my apartment.
4. Pest Issues: My apartment is directly above the trash room and beside the trash chute. This has led to multiple infestations of fruit flies throughout the entire unit. When I reported it, I was told an exterminator would take days to arrive.
5. Package Theft Risk: There is no secure package system. Packages are left in front of the mailboxes and are easily accessible to anyone. Management recently sent an email stating they would not provide security footage unless law enforcement is involved.
6. Rooftop Neglect: The rooftop area is poorly maintained. The furniture is broken, and the artificial dog grass is often covered in dog waste.
7. Trash Overflow: For months, trash, including furniture and large items, was left piling up outside the trash room. It was only cleared out last week, after sitting there for ages and becoming a daily eyesore for residents.
Please ask detailed questions and visit the property in person before committing. While I had high expectations given the building’s newer construction, my experience has been overwhelmingly disappointing. I will not be renewing my lease.
