The biggest night in Hollywood is almost here! And we want to know how you plan on engaging your residents. Last year, over 34 million people tuned in. This year, with Jimmy Fallon hosting, it’s expected to be even more – and your residents are included! The big show will air LIVE on ABC, Sunday, February 26.
Have you considered broadcasting the awards in your clubhouse? For your residents who have opted out of cable and are sticking to digital streaming, they will definitely appreciate it! Have fun with your broadcasting and serve themed beverages. Check out our winning cocktail guide here. If you’re on a budget, get a few bottles of sparkling cider and plastic champagne flutes. It’s amazing how this small touch can glam up the evening.
Another creative idea is to start a community-wide poll for all the nominees up for awards in each category. This can just be a fun and simple way to connect with your residents. Remember, you don’t always have to give away prizes to get residents to participate!
And because we want to join in on the fun, here are our predictions for the winners in the top categories! Stars denote our picks.
La La Land ***
Manchester by the Sea
If the Golden Globes showed us anything, it was that La La Land was a HUGE Success. It’s between this and possibly Moonlight.
Actor In A Leading Role
Casey Affleck, Manchester by the Sea ***
Andrew Garfield, Hacksaw Ridge
Ryan Gosling, La La Land
Viggo Mortensen, Captain Fantastic
Denzel Washington, Fences
Affleck won best actor for Drama at the Globes, so it’s likely he’ll pick up the golden statue this Sunday. Don’t worry, Gosling fans… he’ll be back!
Actress In A Leading Role
Isabelle Huppert, Elle
Ruth Negga, Loving
Natalie Portman, Jackie ***
Emma Stone, La La Land
Meryl Streep, Florence Foster Jenkins
Though many people are rooting for Meryl, we think the award is most likely going to Natalie Portman for her stunning portrayal of Jackie O. This would be her second win. Her first was for Black Swan in 2011.
Actor In A Supporting Role
Mahershala Ali, Moonlight ***
Jeff Bridges, Hell or High Water
Lucas Hedges, Manchester by the Sea
Dev Patel, Lion
Michael Shannon, Nocturnal Animals
We’re betting that it’s going to be all gold and celebratory after parties for Mahershala Ali on Sunday! If he wins, it will be his first time.
Actress In A Supporting Role
Viola Davis, Fences ***
Naomie Harris, Moonlight
Nicole Kidman, Lion
Octavia Spencer, Hidden Figures
Michelle Williams, Manchester by the Sea
If Viola Davis wins, one thing is for sure – she will deliver one fantastic speech! Go, Viola! The actress was nominated in the same category in 2009 for Doubt.
All fun and joking predictions aside, this event is such a great reason to bring people together! So make sure to be a part of the evening. Start your twitter# for your community and after the show, write a blog post about the night and share it with your residents – invite them to join the conversation! But before you do, check out the list of rules and regulations here when it comes to writing and posting about the big night!
