Great location but poorly maintained

Building is poorly maintained. Management company ignored constant calls about the elevator making grinding noises, getting stuck once a month, and behaving oddly, only to have it later catch on fire and may now be out of service for months.

The basement is full of trash and flies, foundation pillars are cracking and spalling, and one entire side of the building has massive water intrusion each and every time it rains.

The building also has its only wheelchair ramp behind a locked basement… door that's inaccessible to residents from the outside.

Access to the parking lot and dumpster bin were permanently removed and now there is only crowded street parking and nowhere to place large trash.

Management ignores emails about these issues and just closes out the tickets. The views are beautiful and the building and its location are lovely, but current residents wish the owner would actually take care of it rather than letting it become so dangerous to live in. This place is a structural failure waiting to happen.

Avoid

Everything breaks all of the time and repairs can take weeks. AC barely functions at best and frequently breaks for days at a time.

Be careful when you apply!

They will take your application deposit before they approve your rental application. We applied for a unit at The Botetourt on April 24th and our application was approved on May 3rd. As part of the application, we needed to put down a $200 deposit.

After we were approved, we chose to go with a different apartment. However, because we did not withdraw our application before April 27th (a full week before our application was actually approved), The Botetourt is keeping our $200. I signed the… application contract like the sucker I am, but I want future applications to beware of this predatory policy.

You only have 3 days to decide whether you want to live there, but The Botetourt have as much time as they want to evaluate your application.

We appreciate your application and feedback and are sorry that you ultimately decided not to move to Botetourt. We require all supporting documentation prior to sending the final approval and welcome letter, and each applicant that cancels after the… three-day grace period is required to forfeit the deposit. Since you did not make your decision until eleven days after the application, the grace period had passed. This is a transparent policy that we provide all applicants ahead of time, so no one is caught unaware. Additionally, we are always available to answer questions about our application process and deposit policy. Again, we are sorry you did not choose to stay at Botetourt, but we do wish you well in your new home. We are happy to answer any remaining questions at (757) 961-4633. -Brittany / Community Manager
