River House Apartments

Best place we have ever lived and not just in the state of Virginia!
We lived in a 2bd/2bth apartment on the 1st floor. I know some people on here have complained about noise and you have to understand you are in an apartment- there will always be some noise (we lived by the entrance so we even got to hear every single person that came in and hung around the elevator). If noise is an issue for you, I would suggest top floor (Which has vaulted ceilings!! Too bad we missed that one.). Really not… a big problem.
The apartment is very nice, we had one washer issue which was fix immediately, never had ANY issues with the apartment. Unfortunately we brought in fleas from being down by the pond fishing, the BEST part of that though? Within a couple days River House staff had a company come in and treat our rooms and took care of the problem immediately! If you have any pest concerns they take care of that head on, same goes for maintenance. Being honest, you may see some waterbugs and the like, just reach out to the staff and they will take care of it. You live by a river AND in Norfolk, its going to happen.
The Staff there are phenomenal!! As happy as I am moving to be closer to family, I am so sad to be leaving the River House Family behind. I wish I could take them with us. They bring the apartment community together with fun activities, parties, and events and are just so involved with their residents you will not meet another group of people who truly care.
The amenities are really nice, the pool is relaxing and there's always friendly faces chilling too. A new grill was installed this year. The fitness room isn't glamorous, but can definitely get the job done and is super convenient. I've never been in there and had it be over crowded. You can check out bikes to go biking around the boardwalk or through the neighborhood (maybe stop and get some coffee or breakfast?) or go kayaking? Fishing off the apartments dock is pretty good too.
There is plenty of parking, the only downside (and literally the only iffy thing about the complex), is that the spots are on the smaller side. If our roommate can fit his Toyota Tundra though I think you can manage.
I worked at Norfolk Naval Station and the drive was great, no freeway and took me about 10-15 minutes to get through the gate.

We lived at Riverhouse for two years and what started out as being a wonderful place to live quickly turned into a nightmare. The staff is always changing here. We were constantly over charged on our bill as a result of the staff's "mistakes". A one-bedroom apartment is extremely overpriced and isn't luxurious at all. You can hear the neighbors above you stomping at all hours of the night and the parking spots are too small. When complaining about them, you're always given the "Well, they are up… to code" speech. My car door is ruined from dings and dents from other residents. They have begun to lease to a lot of rowdy college students, which doesn't help the atmosphere at this place at all. The gym is a joke; machines are old and squeaky. Moving out is a whole other story. They require you to professionally clean your carpets even if they don't need it and you must provide proof via a receipt. The last woman in charge in the office wasn't very friendly either. I noticed another review said they make up stuff as they go which I completely agree on. They make up different rules as they go about the most ridiculous things. Nice place to live, however in no way shape or form luxurious. Calling this place luxurious is like calling Taco Bell "Fine authentic Mexican food". The staff didn't really seem to know what they were doing (they could not explain my bill however, they were proficient when threatening me with legal action if I didn't not pay it). The quality of my apartment was below my standards and I felt like I was significantly over paying. There are not enough spaces in the parking lot for residents. I had… to park on the other side of the complex or in the guest spots (if any were available) multiple times. Furthermore, the spaces are too small for sedans, not well thought out.

If the rent was significantly lower, I would recommend this place. But, in my opinion the quality and location do not justify the price tag. Read More

If you are looking for a place to call home this is not it, the noise from the upstairs apt. is really bad, I've spoken to a lot of people here and they say the same thing. And management doesn't go by what's on the internet they make the rules as they go on.
