Noisy and cheap build - don't move here

Luxury apartment pricing, but not luxury build. I hear everything through the walls and ceiling. Particularly bad for me are the neighbors upstairs. I don't think they're inconsiderate, it's just that the build is so cheap that when they simply walk my recessed ceiling lights shake and rattle. I hear when they use any noise-making appliances (garbage disposal, vacuum, etc), when they open and shut doors, their tv, when they sing to themselves. I even hear them open and shut their microwave door.... It's absolutely ridiculous, and I completely regret moving here. I've considered getting wireless noise-cancelling headphones just to make it tolerable. I've taken over a lease and am counting down until I can move...

Look elsewhere

I lived at Cornerstone apartments for 5 years and while I left a clean, empty apartment, I was still charged for 4 hours of cleaning and overcharged on cleaning the carpet ( they charged per sq ft based on apt size, not amount of carpeting). They can get away with that as they put it in the lease. Not the overcharging, which they did refund me for after I brought it to their attention. Yet I'm sure I'm not the only person they overcharged. They are the only place I have heard of who does not... treat last month's rent (paid at move in) as last month's rent. Instead they see it as a deposit on the current rent and will charge you the difference despite the fact that there is nothing in the contract saying that last month's rent isn't just that, last month's rent. They also demand 4 month's notice to renew your contract or tell them you are moving. While it might be legal, it is totally unnecessary in a city like Bellingham with insufficient housing. Shoddy business practices. You will be happier elsewhere.
