The Laurel Apartments

My concerns began before move-in. I was shown and told I would be renting one apartment, only to discover at lease signing that I was being placed in a different unit. I was then overcharged $3,000. Mgmt immediately acknowledged the error but refused to refund the money, stating they could only apply it to future rent.

The move-in inspection identified numerous problems, including damaged flooring, broken windows, a leaking shower, a toilet that did not flush properly, and laundry-room doors… that were coming off their hinges. Again, these items were noted on my MOVE-IN CHECKLIST. Most of these issues were never addressed.
Some of the other problems included:

An HVAC vent attached to the ceiling with scotch tape
A dryer that overheats and shuts off after only a few minutes.
A leak above a kitchen cabinet that ultimately damaged the food stored inside.
Numerous maintenance requests that were either ignored or marked complete despite the underlying problem remaining unresolved.
The most serious example involved the laundry-room doors. I submitted 6 repair requests and spoke with multiple managers and maintenance employees over 7 months. Nothing was done. Eventually, 1 of the doors fell to the ground in the middle of the night, damaging the wall and floor. Had one of my children been present, the consequences could have been far more serious.

After the door fell, mgmt finally responded—instead of repairing or replacing the doors, they were simply removed. I was given no timeline for replacement and remain without laundry-room doors.

These incidents are part of a broader pattern rather than isolated mistakes. Maintenance requests repeatedly unanswered, promised follow-up has not occurred, and communication from mgmt nonexistent.

After months of these issues, I respectfully requested that mgmt release me from my lease so we both could simply move on. My 1st email received no response. My 2nd email received no response.

When I finally went to the leasing office in person, I waited 15 minutes while I could hear staff and the manager speaking and laughing in the manager's office. I was ultimately told that the manager would not meet with me and was effectively asked to leave. Let me rephrase that, they treated me like I was being kicked out of a nightclub when I was there to address safety hazards in my unit.

The Laurel has been a great place to live thus far. The team at the desk are super friendly and helpful and the amenities are good.

I love this place! I needed a garage and this place is very garage oriented. The Laurel looks like a resort and is maintained as such. It's in a great area and suits me to a T.

I don't care for Greystar. The Laurel was a decent complex before this management company stepped in and it has been downhill since.
